Causes
Bacterial Infection

Differentials
Canaliculitis - has less pain, and less swelling than dacryocystitis

Treatment
Initial treatment  -  topical warm compresses + oral antibiotics
Secondary - if initial treatment unsuccessful, perform incision & drainage

DCR - performed after acute infection controlled.  Should not be delayed because of risk of relapsing infection.  Also treatment of choice for Chronic Dacryocystitis.
